He was the 16th president of the United States, who guided his country through the most devastating experience in its national history, the Civil War. He is considered by many historians to have been the greatest American president. He is remembered for his involvement in the process that led to the end of slavery in the United States. On Good Friday, April 14, 1865, at about 10:15 P.M., while attending a play at Ford's Theatre, president Lincoln was shot in the back of his head. (1809 - 1865)
